Potato Crisis to end soon: Hemant

Chief Minister Hemant Soren today assured that the ban on transportation of potatoes by theBengal government which led to potato crisis in the state will end soon.

The CM, stating that “West Bengal is our neighbour” promised to take up the issue with Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.

The ban on transportation, has led to an outcry in the vegetable market. The potato prices took a leap from Rs. 18-20 to Rs. 24-26 a kg in most parts of the state, including the capital and Jamshedpur. If the ban imposed on transportation of the potatoes outside Bengal is not taken off, the prices would soar up to Rs. 30 per kg very soon.

Last time such a crisis had occurred in November’ 2013, because of curbs enforced by Bengal. The issue was resolved after Mamata Banerjee was persuaded to remove the ban. The government is planning to meet up with the CM again this time.

The agriculture department has been instructed to closely monitor the situation.
