In fact, the Joy of Giving Week is a “festival of giving”!.

V.Krishnan,an activist who was associated with this movement, expects social bodies such as Prabhat Khabar,KGVK,IIM,FJCCI and others to make this festival popular in Jharkhand’s cities.

The website-joyofgivingwee.ning.com-states that this festival was launched in 2009 on the day of the Gandhi Jayanti -October 2-8.It “brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate ‘giving’”.

The aim was to motivate people to give rather than take things.”Giving anything to others brings a sense of satisfaction. It brings happiness”,says a school teacher who is a fan of this movement.

“From auto drivers to CEOs, school children to celebrities, homemakers to opinion leaders, millions of people give their time, money, resources or skills back to society- by creating or participating in “events” of their choice. A giving event could be as simple as a family taking out the maid’s children for an ice-cream party, or as large as Gift Compassion that had 10,000+ school children across India making and exchanging gifts with their peers from different socio-economic backgrounds”,says the webste.
