Was Yasser Arafat poisoned to death?
With this question floating in the air in Palestine, the remains of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat were exhumed for poison tests on Tuesday.
The exhumation was carried by members of the Palestinian Presidential Guard from the tomb. After taking out the remains and putting them into a coffin, they took it to a mosque nearby the Palestinian presidency’s Ramallah headquarter, said a report by Xinhua.
“Tawfiq Tirawi, head of the Palestinian committee investigating Arafat’s death, was present during the digging along with investigators and experts from Switzerland, France and Russia, the source added.
The investigation aims to find out if Arafat’s 2004 death in a French hospital resulted from poisoning”,said the same report.
After Al-Jazeera,the Doha- based news network cited the Institute of Radiation Physics claiming that “traces of radioactive polonium-210 were found on Arafat’s underwear and tooth brush.Subsequentally,a widespread suspicion that Israel had poisoned Arafat after he was in his Ramallah headquarters before falling ill,had gained ground.
