Senior police officials today came together under the umbrella of Randhir Prasad Verma Memorial Foundation in Ranchi.
They held a meeting and decided to involve the people in making the Foundation function in his memory.
Verma is an Indian Police Service officer.According to Wekipedia,this IPS officer had died while trying to resist a robbery attempt in a bank in Dhanbad in 1991. He was posthumously given the gallantry award Ashok Chakra. The Government of India also issued a Commemorative postage stamp in his honor in 2004.
He was born in 1952 in the village Jagatpur of Supaul district previously in Saharsa district of Bihar and studied at St. John’s High School, Ranchi and Patna College. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1974. As a police officer he eliminated many criminal gangs.
His widow Rita Verma later joined politics and was elected to Lok Sabha on BJP ticket. A Chowk “Randhir Verma Chowk” is a busy lane named after him in Dhanbad. His wife lives with two growing sons.
The police officials who participated in the meeting included South Chotanagpur IG MS Bhatia and Ranchi SP Saket Kumar.
