All out efforts are on to shift the rampaging elephant from Ranchi town area to the forest area in Bundu,located along Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway.
The elephant had killed Baldev Manjhi,55 on Wednesday morning at Naya Basti under Argora Police station in Ranchi.”Manjhi was returning home after defecating in the field before the sun rise when the wild elephant rammed over him.He died on the spot”,said Marku Manjhi,a relative of Baldev.
The same elephant had attacked four persons at Naya Basti injuring them.All of them were declared out of danger.
Though there were many incidents involving wild elephants attacking and killing people in forest areas of Jharkhand,the Wednesday incident is the first incident in Jharkhand where the wild elephant had entered its capital and killed a resident there.
The state forest officials say that the wild elephant had entered into Ranchi town via Bundu- Khunti-Lohardaga forest.”From the Airport road,it reached Birsa Chowk.From there it went towards Kadru in the night when no body could take note of it”,said a report.
“The elephant was pushed to Eco-Friendly park and from there it was made to enter into the Bundu forest last night”,said a senior forest department officer.
