Web based software can make transportation sector accountable,says Chief Secy

To provide quality service in transportation sector of the state,there is a need to develop an accountable system. Chief Secretary R S Sharma said this today during a review meeting with the Transport Department at the Project Building.

Sharma stressed the need to use web-based software- Vahan & Sarthi software. He said that the relevant information related to vehicles should be updated and be made available online by the end of the year. He said that use of the software should be popularized. Its application could be accessed over mobile phones as well.

He recommended e-payment of registration fee, license fees and renewal charges and payment of all type of taxes through the payment gateway.

Chief Secretary said that problem of overloading, non-registration of vehicles and non -payment of tax is a serious problem in mining areas. There should be a regular checking done by the District Transportation Officers (DTO’s) to stop these practices and ensure payment of taxes by all commercial vehicles, he added.”This payment can be either over the counters or by payment gateway.”

The Secretary, Transport Department, Mast Ran Meena,Transport Commissioner, . Abhay Kumar Sinha, along with other officials were also present in the meeting.
