Two lakh bogus ration cards eliminated in Jharkhand

ration-cardActing on the report of its inquiry,the state Food,Civil Supply and Consumer Afairs Department has set a record by eliminating nearly two lakh bogus ration cards during the past months in Jharkhand where just 800 ration cards were rejected during the past three years,reveals an official report.

At the same time,nearly 1000 illegal PDS shops were sealed and locked up across the state.In effect,the number of Public Distribution System shops had gone down from 24500 in 2015 to 23500 in 2016..

”This was the outcome of a campaign launched to contain corruption in the Food,Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department in the state”,claimed the Department Secretary Vinay Kumar Choubey in a press conference inside Suchna Bhawan in Ranchi on Friday.The Department is headed by its Minister Saryu Rai.

Choubey informed that the Department with an aim to provide better service to consumers has acquired mobile numbers of nearly 25 lakh consumers.

”Through the SMS service,the consumers will now be able to know when the dealer had collected the ration to be delivered to them and who had collected their ration and so on.This will prevent corruption and illegal sale of subsidized supply items supplied by the PDS”,he said.

Choubey pointed out that every consumer can now make use of Toll Free Number 18003456598 to lodge any complaint connected with the PDS.
