PWD asked to ascertain the cause
After a portion of an under-construction school building collapsed killing one person and leaving 12 others with injuries on Thursday, police have booked the building contractor and proprietor of the private school.
The under-construction portico of the new campus of Pincushion Montessori International School at Brammapuram collapsed when workers were engaged in laying the concrete on the roof.
Following this, Katpadi police have registered a case against Nithya Kumar, contractor of the building, and Balamurali Krishna, owner of the school, under sections 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of Indian Penal Code, police said.
Of the 13 workers, who were rescued from the debris, one of them – Ravichandran alias Bakiaraj (47), a resident of 66 Pudur, Katpadi, succumbed to injuries at Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital. The condition of two others admitted to CMC was critical.
Collector S.A. Raman said he had asked officials of the Public Works Department to inspect the accident site and find out the cause for the structure’s collapse.
