To protect houses built on tribal land,owners paralyse traffic in Ranchi

Traffic was paralysed following a procession taken out by hundreds of people under the banner of ‘Ghar Bachawo Sanghrash Samittee’ in Ranchi on Saturday.

The agitationists also held dharna in front of Governor’s House-Raj Bhawan.As a result,traffic was paralysed in the city in the afternoon.

The agitationists were protecting against the state admionistration serving notices on owners who had built houses on tribal lands.As per the CNT Act 1908,non tribals can’t buy and build houses on tribal lands.

But the owners said that they had constructed the houses after the tribals had sold them.”We will die,but not vacate the houses”,said Sudhir Kumar,a resident of Kokar,echoing the sentiments of many agitationists.
