Inspired to create a a single point source for basic information related to the state government information,Arjun Munda, chief minister, and his team began work on a plan to integrate all its websites.
Though Ahern (1860 – 1938) was a librarian and leader of the modern library movement, the state government led by Munda is keen to improve the organizational efficiencies by leveraging data processing, data storage and data communication technologies.
A tender published by the Public Information Department invites bid from agency who was certified by ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001:2005.”Uploading and regular updating of important government circulars, gazettes and other publication on website in pdf/other format. These documents should be classified in different categories with easy search options”,states the tender.
The size of this e-library should be such that it can upload and subscribe to atleast 10,000 books and publications on various subjects with special reference to governance,socio-economic situation, culture and so on.In addition, the agency was required to provide connectivity of the IPRD’s e library with other e libraries in the country.
Munda is of the view that the e-library can help the government access its own information quickly.“Existing network facilities can be utilized to achieve great savings in labour costs and the reduction of paper storage and handling facilities.”
