Sundari village is in the news after Milinda Gates visited it on Sunday.”She was too good”,smiles Rukmani Devi,a resident of Sundari village under Torpa block in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.
Villagers say that she entered into area and interacted with a number of male and female.”She also got into the hut and looked into the lifestyle of tribals”,said Devi.”We all found her enjoying seeing the mango orchard and watermelon coming up on a plot.”
Melinda Gates, co-chair, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF),who arrived at Ranchi on Saturday evening to return to New Delhi on Sunday,had spent around seven hours at Sundari.
Sundari is a Village in Torpa Block in Khunti District of Jharkhand State, India. It is located 18 KM towards South from District head quarters Khunti. 12 KM from Torpa. 51 KM from State capital Ranchi
Ganaloya ( 7 KM ) , Husir ( 7 KM ) , Bichna ( 8 KM ) , Okra ( 9 KM ) , Diyankel ( 10 KM ) are the nearby Villages to Sundari. Sundari is surrounded by Torpa Block towards west , Khunti Block towards North , Rania Block towards South , Bandgaon Block towards East .
Her visit was part of an invitation by Pradan,an NGO working for promotion of Self Helf Group, Forest-Based Livelihood, Natural Resource Management and Microenterprise Promotion.”She had just come to take note of the reality at the village level”,said an official of the NGO.
NGO expects Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to contribute in women empowerment through education and health care.
