Chief Minister Raghuvar Das today announced that the state government is planning to award three children who have scored highest marks in science subjects in class 10 and class 12 (JAC).
The CM said this during a meeting with the Council of Science and Technology held at Project Bhavan. He added that promoting scientific knowledge is essential for the development of a rational approach.
The proposed awards are to be named after Aryabhata, Srinivas Ramanujan and Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose.
Further, a state level scientific incentive programme for children will be developed under which students of class 6 to class 12 will be awarded for their scientific exploration. For this purpose, the state will organise a Baal Vigyaan Sangam. He added that for this, a fund of Rs 5 crore will be earmarked.
Similarly, students enrolled in B.Sc. and M.Sc. will be provided incentives to proceed with research in their respective departments.
The CM said that a premier institute like B.I.T. Sindri should be promoted as a Centre of Excellence and for this purpose, it will be deemed as an autonomous institute.
He added that the science departments in the state’s universities, and engineering and polytechnic colleges should have theme-based research projects. The research work of young lecturers from the state will also be sponsored. The government is working towards equipping laboratories and research centres with state-of-the-art facilities. In
addition to this, the biotechnology departments will also be fully equipped.
He added that the government should also work towards identifying rural intellect and encourage them. The state headquarters have earmarked Rs 186 lakh for this project. The state government will provide 25 acres of government land to the department of Science and Technology for the establishment of a science city.
The CM said that the Fossil Park at Rajmahal should be restored and developed into an international attraction. The Forest and Environment Department will be responsible for the project.
