Soren asks officials to gear up to tackle draught, provide relief to farmers

Chief Minister, Hemant Soren today held a high level meeting in Ranchi on the possibility of draught in the state due to the failure of the monsoon.

The meeting attended by top officials including Chief Secretary Sajal Chakrabarty and Chief Minister’s Principle Secretary Sukhdeo Singh saw Soren directing them to coordinate and ensure that the Departments worked on a war footing to provide relief to the affected families.

“All possible help should reach to the farmers. Every step should be taken to provide them relief.” said Soren while addressing the meeting inside the Project Bhawan on Thursday.

“The allocation of funds should be made at the earliest.The government will not tolerate any kind of lying back attitude in providing relief to the farmers”,he said.

After seeing the presentation given by the Agricultural Department, Soren asked him to prepare a special relief programme for the farmers in Garhwa,Chatra and Palamau .

“These districts have received the least rainfall. Even the performance of MANERGA was not satisfactory in these districts”,added Soren.

Chief Minister expressed his concern over their plight of farmers in these districts and asked the officials to take the necessary steps to tackle their problem.Chief Minister also directed Chief Secretary to prepare a district wise report on the rain fall and the net sown areas covered by farmers on a daily basis.This should continue till July 3.

On August 1,the meeting will be held again to decide the relief packages of farmers,Soren told the officials.
