
A wave of grief swept Jharkhand on Sunday evening,when former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam died in Shillong.
“We are shocked because he was the scientist cum a great man who inspired me and my children”,said Sudesh Kumar,a lawyer echoing the sentiments of lakhs of people of Jharkhand.
Report said Kalam 11th President of India,who was a very popular head of the state between 2002 and 2007,had collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in the Meghalaya capital. He was also known as India’s missile man for ensuring the success of Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
Kalam (83) suffered turned ill and collapsed at around 6:30 PM at the function. He was rushed to Bethany hospital in Nongrim hills area of Shillong. Doctors tried to revive him but failed to do so. Army doctors were also called but they declared him dead due to a cardiac arrest.
Recently,Kalam had visited Ranchi and presided over the convocation function organized by Ranchi based Birsa Agriculture Univbersity on May 19.It was the 5th Convocation Programme held inside Birsa Agricultural University Campus, Ranchi and kit was attended among others by its Vice Chancellor and Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed.
A Jharkhand minister found herself at the receiving end of jokes after being seen paying tribute to a garlanded photo of former President APJ Abdul Kalam in images that surfaced on social media.
On July 23,an ugly incident took place in this state showing photographers taking pictures at a school function where Neera Yadav, the state’s Human Resource Development minister, who was chief guest,paid tributes to Dr Kalam. The pictures were published in a newspaper.
