Samiti vows to free Suvarnarekha river from pollution

Apart from encroachment,the river is gasping for air while its water has turned poisonous.Alarmed by its death,residents of Ranchi have set up a committee-

Suvarnarekha Nadi Bachawo Samiti.The committee recognizes that the pollution of the river is a point of serious concern.”We have decided to protect the river by highlighting its pollution”,said Samiti in a press release today.

The Samiti,set up on January 18,2015,was backed by several residents of Samlong village under Chutia police station in Ranchi.All of them who took part in a meeting and procession have announced that they will carry a movement to get the river free from encroachment and pollution.

In fact,after originating near Piska/ Nagri, near Ranchi,the capital of Jharkhand,the Subarnarekha traverses a long distance through RanchI, Seraikela Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts in the state.

Thereafter, it flows for shorter distances through Paschim Medinipur district in West Bengal for 83 kilometres (52 mi) and Balasore district of Orissa. There, it flows for 79 kilometres (49 mi) and joins the Bay of Bengal near Talsari. The total length of the river is 395 kilometres (245 mi).
