Rising fire from underground mines triggers panic in Jharia

23nlook2Flame and smoke from underground mines in Ghanudih project under Bastakola area of BCCL near Dhanbad district headquarters has triggered panic among the people living in Jharia township.

According to eyewitnesses high sheet of smoke and flame were billowing out from different seams of underground mines.

Reportedly the Deputy Director of Directorate General of Mines Safety Nayan Sinha inspected the spot and said the flames could be controlled.

He also allayed fears about any threat to Jharia township from the fire for the time being.
Meanwhile, the BCCL management has served notice of eviction to residents of four basti– Gandhi Chabutra, Fularibag, Durgapur and houses near colliery office in Dhanudih project.
