A Rs 7 crore radiotherapy machine, imported from Germany for the Jharkhand government run RIMS hospital in Ranchi, was lying dumped for the past three months at the port near Kolkata.Reason?
A No Objection Certificate by the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre(BARC) was required by the RIMS management for its use.But since RIMS had not fulfilled its criteria,BARC had not given its NOC.
Radiotherapy is the use of x-rays and similar rays (such as photons) to treat disease. The machine is part of treatment. In the absence of this machine, many patients were compelled to go out of the state to get treated.
Aware of it,RIMS Director Tulsi Mahto was keen that BARC provides NOC at the earliest.”We have prepared the proposal meeting almost all its requirements. We hope,we get the NOC this time”,said Mahto.
