Following a surprise raid in Garhwa jail,34 mobile phones, 34 chargers, nine batteries, five knives and four scissors were recovered from different wards.
The raid was conducted by a team of officials led by Garhwa SDPO Hiralal Ravi and Jail superintendent Pramod Kumar Jha on Thursday.
Such a large number of objectionable items found from inside the jail have raised questions on the security.
The SDPO and the jail superintendent told mediapersons at a press conference that police were informed about the frequent use of mobile phones from inside the jail.
Jha said, “Prisoners were using mobile phones because the jammer, which stops mobile connectivity and jams network, has been lying defunct for several months. We have apprised the higher authorities about the situation but the jammer has not been replaced.”
Answering a query, the SDPO said it was owing to negligence on the part of the jail administration that such a large number of objectionable items were used in the sub-jail.
