Security forces and Maoists were locked in a gun battle near Kendua Pahari under Dhanwar Assembly constituency in Giridih district today.
According to the police, no casualty was reported in the encounter that took place before polling began at Dhanwar from where former Chief Minister and JVM( Prajatantrik) president Babulal Marandi is contesting.
The rebels fired at the security forces but because of the strong retaliatory action the ultras fled into the forest, said the police.
The short encounter occurred under Gaona police station limits. However the polling at Dhanwar was not affected.
