lawCrime took place in Pune. Its impact was visible on the court premises in Ranchi where lawyers condemned the police for arresting the fourth year law student on the charge of molesting a third year student.

“We condemn the police for booking him without conducting a proper inquiry. No body should be arrested until clinching evidence proving the accused guilty is gathered.Which is why the CBI,a premier investigating agency, never arrests the accused without establishing the crime against him”,said Dinkar Bashist,a lawyer, echoing the sentiments of many lawyers.

The police in Pune had arrested Manu Bhimsinghji Rao (23),a resident of Ahmednagar.Reports reaching here said,Rao had gone to visit the girl at her hostel on Law College Road in Pune on Wednesday.

In her complaint, the girl said that Bhimsinghji had called on her cell phone and asked her to come down.”I told him that my mother had come to meet me.I will not be able to come.Soon,he threatened me that if I don’t come down, he would come upstairs”,she said in her complaint adding:“When I came down he molested and abused me”,she said in her complaint.

The Pune police quoted the girl saying, after molesting her,he fled.”The girl confronted Rao in the college yesterday and following a heated argument lodged a complaint with the police against him”,said the police.Rao was sent to judicial custody today.

“From the recorded complaint of this girl,it is clear that she knew the accused. And if she knew him and had a relationship, there can be a fight between the two.And as such, prima facie, it can not be a case of molestation”,said Sunil Singh,a lawer.
