The women also marked ’tilak’ on their brothers’ forehead and offered sweets to them. The brothers gave gifts to their sisters and vowed to protect them.
Shops did brisk business as people were seen buying sweets and rakhis. Dressed in traditional attire women and young girls visited their brothers’ homes.
The inmates of Birsa Munda central jail also celebrated the occasion with their sisters who came to tie ‘rakhi’ to them.
