Board is in the process of handing over jobs related with distribution, billing, collection and maintenance to private companies from December 1.
In Jamshedpur and Ranchi ,two companies were selected by way of floating tenders and scrutinising their bids to do these jobs on a franchise basis.
In Dhanbad, the single tender filed by the company was cancelled. Now,a new tender is planned to be floated for the same.
The JSEB’s move was opposed by its staff. They have decided to launch their statewide strike on November 6.JSEB chairman SN Verma had asked them not to agitate.”By handing over these works to private companies will not harm any of them”,said Verma.
But since these staff were adamant,Verma was trying to keep an alternative arrangement ready.Toward the same end,he had contacted Tata Power,CCL,SAIL,DVC,MECON and Bihar State Electricity Board to help JSEB maintain generation, transmission and distribution of power during the period of their strike.
