Jharkhand Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba held a meeting today at Project Bhavan to discuss the tourism policy for the state. He suggested that a Project Monitoring Unit be established within the Tourism Department which will supervise the development of the tourism sector, as well as monitor the promotional activities regarding the development of tourism in the state.

According to the Chief Secretary, the main objective of the tourism policy is to increase popularity of the tourist spots in Jharkhand among both national and international tourists. He directed officials in the state to increase employment opportunities in the tourism sector and accelerate the development of the infrastructure in the state. In addition to increasing the resources in the state, the focus should be on developing the state’s rich tradition and cultural heritage.

The Chief Secretary said that the reservations for the guest houses for the department of tourism should be done via a centralised reservation portal. He also added that for the portal to be effective, it should be easy for the people to access and use.

The Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department, N.N. Pandey emphasized that Village Tourism Committees should be formed to promote traditional art and culture of the villages.

The Secretary , Tourism Department, Avinash Kumar, said that the forests and water resources also have potential for promotion of tourism.

The Meeting was attended by A.K.Singh, Principal Secretary, Planning Department; Nidhi Khare, Principal Secretary to the Commercial Tax department; Ratan Kumar,Secretary, Department of Transport and other office bearers.
