PETA India demands ban on use of elephants in circus

elephantAt a time when the Ganesh Mahotsav is celebrated to mark the birth day of Ganesh-the elephant headed God-the animal rights group are slated to hit the roads tomorrow to demand a ban on the use of elephants in circuses.

The group –PETA India-led by Chani Singh will hold a demonstration in the national capital to press for the same demand.”It’s crime”,said Singh.”In different circuses,elephants are tortured,kicked and chained to perform tricks for their owners.We can not tolerate it any more.”

PETA India is of the view that the celebration of the Ganesh Chaturthi is the right occasion to bring awareness about the cause of the elephants.”We hope the government is sensitive enough to meet our demand”,she said.

As per PETA,whose activists will stage a demonstration in New Delhi at 4 p.m. on Tuesday,as many as two dozen circuses in the country hold 84 elephants captive.
