A new outfit was using the seasonal disease –malaria-to mobilise support among the people. After two persons-Aasha Devi(40)and her daughter Munni(14)-died of this disease at Ronhe Bar Toli village under Torpa block in Khunti district last week, there was a hue and cry.
Many residents of Toli and its adjoining Munda Toli were down with Malaria. After the death of the duo, many tribals had held demonstration demanding sprinkling of DDT and medicare for the patients.
“We went to the primary health centre. But instead of giving us injection to provide quick recovery, its doctors were giving us some medicines. We refused to take them and bought injections and got injected ourselves”,said Ratnakar Munda,a patient, who resides at Rohnebar Toli.
Asked why the health department was not giving them the injection,Khunti Deputy Commissoner Rakeh Kumar told jharkhandstatenews.com that there was no provision to provide injection.”When we give medicines, they don’t accept it”,said Kumar.
Since the state health department lacked provision to provide injection to treat the patients,Akhil Bharatiya Jharkhand Party, whose name no body had heard in the past came out and its state incharge Lal Vijay Nath Shahdeo distributed 80 mosquito nets and a bag of bleaching powder in these malaria affected villages on Monday.
Also, the party handed over Rs 2000 cash to the family of Devi and demanded employment to a member of the family of the deceased.”If the government does not meet the demand,we will agitate”,said Shahdeo.
