Talukdar,28,has been winning medals in national and international events consistently as a archer from Jharkhand after it was set up in 2000.Now he may be compelled to give up his residential status as an archer from Jharkhand due to the state government’s policy.

As per the policy adopted during the previous UPA government led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren ensures that only the medal winning sportsperson who was a native of Jharkhand, can be entitled for cash award.Since Telukdar was born in Assam,he was not a native of this state and as such he was not entitled for cash award.

In fact,Talukdar began his career in archery in Jamshedpur as a staff of Tata Steel. In effect,he received awards from the state government for winning medals for the state since 2006.Later,after the Hemant Soren government adopted the policy, his name was deleted from the list for cash awardees after he and Deeika Kumari had won gold in Talpei Ashian in 2013.

Today, when the nation is going to witness National Games commencing in Kerala on Januarty 31,Talukdar has an option-ask the state government to either change the policy or he may quit his residential status after representing Jharkhand for the last time in the National Games.

Already,Telukdar has conveyed his appeal to Director (Sports), Jharkhand.Though Director(Sports) reportedly assured him of a favourable response,no action was taken so far. This leaves him with no other option than to decide to stop representing Jharkhand after the National Games ends in Kerala.
