Jharkhand Rural Development Department today held a meeting in Ranchi on
Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) scheme. The meeting was presided over by Principal Secretary N.N.Sinha.
DBT,an attempt to change the mechanism of transferring subsidies launched by Government of India on 1 January 2013,should be used to transfer the wages of MNREGA workers into their bank accounts, the meeting stressed.
In fact,DBT aims to transfer subsidies directly to the people through their bank accounts. It is hoped that crediting subsidies into bank accounts can reduce leakages, delays, and so on.
The meeting was attended among others by MNREGA Commissioner,Jharkhand,Vijay Kumar Singh,GM,Bank of India, officers of other banks and Deputy Commissioners of Hazaribagh,Khunti,Ramgarh and Bokaro.
Principal Secretary N.N.Sinha said,in maximum schemes, the workers were getting payment through their bank accounts.Yet,there were many workers who did not get the payment through their bank accounts.
During the meeting, the officers of different banks came up with their own opinions. It was felt that due to lack of co-ordination between the banks and the state government officials, the problem prevailed.Sinha directed that it should be resolved amicably. He also told the GM,Bank of India,to review the DBT every week and inform the Information Technology Department.
