US presidential election has gained spotlight on a subject that involves fifty percent of its voters. The subject is the pregnancies caused by rape.
US Senate candidate Richard Mourdock is under fire for speaking on this issue on Tuesday. He is learnt to have said that pregnancies caused by rape were “something God intended to happen” while defending his opposition to abortion, said a PTI report.
Aware that his controversial observation can turn the women against him,Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney quickly distanced himself from his gaffe. Many Democrats howled at him, anticipating women voters to go against him on the two week ahead election day.
PTI report said that during a debate inside Senate, Mourdock expressed his view that he ‘believed life begins at conception and opposed abortion in all cases except when the mother’s life was in danger’.
Said the PTI report quoting him:”I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realise life is that gift from God, and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
