Move to provide monetary benefit to registered labourers in J’khand

Introducing an ambitious initiative in the Labour Department, the Jharkhand Labour and Cooperative Minister, K.N. Tripathi, signed an MoU with the Postal Department here on Wednesday.

The objective of the deal is to provide direct benefit to registered labourers’ daughters who were born on and after April,1 2014.

Claiming the effort as a revolutionary step towards the improvement in girl’s education in the State, Tripathi said, “It will help to curb the burden of labourers in educating their daughters”.

He said that Rs.1.08 lakh, which they would get after completing 18 years, would assist labourers in providing higher education or in arranging marriage of their daughters.

Earlier it was seen that the labourers had to sell their valuables for the marriage of their daughters, but this initiative might help them to combat such problems, said Tripathi.

According to the terms mentioned in the MoU, Building Development Workers’ Welfare Board will pay Rs. 5,000 annually in the name of the registered labourer’s daughter at the nearest post office till she attains the age of 18 years and after that the father of the child will be paid Rs.1.08 lakh which he can utilise either for her education or marriage.

This apart, the MoU has also made arrangement for scholarships during the study period of the girl child.
