
In a positive move to clean the Harmu river,Ranchi’s most revered Nadi,a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today.
The MoU was signed between Chief Engineer,Urban Development Department,Pramod Kumar Singh and a private company-Eagle Infra India Ltd’s Project Officer Prashant Khandale.
The MoU under the headline-Harmu Nadi Ke Jirnodhar Aor Sarakshan(Harmu River’s Survival and Protection) was signed in presence of Secretary,Urban Development Department cum Director,Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Ltd.
In fact,this Harmu river has been suffering from encroachment and water pollution for long.This had far reaching consequences.As the river faced the threat of survival,activists launched agitationists.
Subsequently,a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed at Jharkhand High Court in 2010.It sought to draw attention to the plight of the river chocked by illegal settlements and garbage.
Even as the PIL awaited judgement,the state Urban Development Department took initiative as Urban Development Minister CP Singh wanted this river to become free from encroachment and pollution.Result?
The beginning was made with the MoU signed today.
