She does what many other widows can’t.Hussna Bano alias Mun,whose husband died long ago without fathering a child, nurishes and feeds more than two dozen orphan children. All these children live with her in the slum near Azad Nagar in Ranchi.
Mun was born and brought up in a poor family. After her marriage.her husband Mohammed Iqbal died leaving her a widow without any child.
The neighbours say Mun had a hobby to rescue orphan children who were abandoned by their parents and dumped in isolated pockets soon after their birth and bring them up.So far she had in her house 25 such children. All of them were fed by her.Her source of money?
Mun makes packets out of waste papers and sells them.”Whatever I earn,I am satisfied that I had brought up these children”,she said with a sense of pride writ large on her face..”Some other activists had from time to time contributed in my venture”.
In Azad Basti Mun,who could barely read and write in Urdu, was widely known as “mother”.
Recognising her achievement, the international entertainment channel Star Plus has made a film on her and is slated to telecast it on August 5.
