MJ Akbar to contest Rajya Sabha By Poll as BJP candidate in Jharkhand

images (14)The BJP has decided to put up senior journalist MJ Akbar as its candidate for the coming Rajya Sabha by poll.

The poll is slated be be held on July 2.The last date for filling the nomination is June 22.Akbar,who is the BJP’s spokesperson,has arrived from New Delhi.”He came by Go Air.He will file the nomination tomorrow”,said BJP’s state unit spokesperson Pradeep Sinha.

Jharkhand has six Rajya Sabha seats.The Election Commission had countermanded the poll held for two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand in view of incidents of “horse trading and use of money power to influence the voters (MLAs)”. The Commission wrote to President Pratibha Patil to rescind the March 12, 2012, notification for election issued by her.

After the Jharkhand High Court disposed off the case recently,the EC took the decision to hold the Rajya Sabha poll on July 2.

In this state with 81(Elected)+1(Nominated) MLAs,BJP has 43 MLAs.In addition,if the the its ally All Jharkhand Students Union’s five MLAs are counted,the strength of the ruling NDA goes to 48.

This means that the victory of Akbar was almost certain.
