State govt. doing all its best to resolve issues, but some demands are outside its purview

Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao has urged truckers to withdraw their strike which entered second day on Friday.

The Minister said the State government was doing its best to resolve the issues in the transport sector to ensure that the truck operators could work in a happy and peaceful atmosphere.

In a statement, the Minister said some of the demands put forth by lorry owners were in the purview of the State government while the remaining were under Union Transport Ministry. Referring to the truckers’ demand that the 50% hike in Third Party Premium (TPP) be brought down, the Minister said that the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) under the Union Government had issued orders reducing the TPP to 40%.

He said that in regard to VAT on diesel, the Cabinet sub-committee would meet once again to decide on the issue. As far as the motor vehicle fee was concerned, the government would take a rational stand based on a report to be submitted by the Transport Commissioner.
