Two incidents during the past two days show the Maoists were out to punish those workers of the ruling BJP who had defied their dictate to pay them ransom.
In the first case,Saryu Prasad Yadav,BJP’s Simdega Block president, was shot dead on Wednesday night when Yadav was sleeping inside his house with his family members .
A group of Maoists reportedly encircled his house and opened indiscriminate firing. While Yadav died on the spot, his wife Suman suffered a bullet injury. She was undergoing treatment at the state government run RIMS hospital in Ranchi.
The second incident unfolded at Bhaugadi-Patratu village in Latehar district last night when a group of Maoists bashed up two women and put a lock on their house after they failed to find their kin Rampayare Sao, a BJP leader.
Both Sao and Yadav, who were petty contractors, had reportedly refused to pay ransom to the Maoists.Though the police had launched raids, none of the culprits were arrested till now.
