Eight Maoists,who were undergoing imprisonment,managed to escape after their comrades launched attack on a van killing three police men and injuring six others in Giridih on Friday.
The van carrying 32 prisoners including these eight Maoists were returning to jail from the court where they were produced earlier during the day in separate cases.
Reports said a group of Maoists from neighbouring Jamui district in Bihar put up a road blockade by parking a truck at Udan More in Giridih.As their van and an escort police car came to a halt there,these armed Maoists who included a couple of female,encircled them and launched attack.
“They hurled a can bomb and opened firing on these vehicles.When these vehicles hit the wall under the hail of fire,four persons including three policemen and a prisoner were killed”,said Giridih’s DY SP Shatrughan Razzak.
Among 32 prisoners,eight of them were Maoists.They were identified as Baijanth Tiwari, Ramesh Mandal, Mithilesh Mandal, Nimchand Mahto, Sahedeo Soren, Bipin Mandal, Chotka Marandi and Panstosh Hembram.
”All of them together with one other prisoner fled with the attackers”,said Razzak.The rest prisoners including the two who had fled from the scene,returned to the jail.
Although the police had launched search operation to nab these attackers,none of them were traced till now.
In the incident,six policemen who got injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.”We have recovered six unexploded bombs from near the site”,said Razzak.
