M.J. Akbar takes oath as Rajya Sabha member

M.J.AkbarBharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesman M.J. Akbar, who made it to the Rajya Sabha in the by-election from Jharkhand earlier in July, took oath as member of the Upper House today.

The election was necessitated following the resignation of K.D. Singh after he left the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and joined the Trinamool Congress.

Akbar, whose term will expire next year, had defeated Haji Hussain Ansari of the JMM by 19 votes.

Akbar as a journalist has been associated with various publications including India Today, the Asian Age and the Sunday Guardian, and has written many books.
