M.J. Akbar files nomination papers for Rajya Sabha

bjpBharatiya Janata Party candidate M.J. Akbar today filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha election in the presence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, former Chief Minister Arjun Munda and other Ministers and senior leaders at Vidhan Sabha.

The BJP took time in announcing its candidate. Prior to the announcement of Akbar’s name, speculation was being made that either party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain or former Chief Minister Arjun Munda would be nominated by the party for this by-poll.

His tenure will be of one year. The bypoll was necessitated after resignation of K.D. Singh, who has been elected on a TMC ticket from West Bengal.

The by-poll will be held on July 2 and the result will be declared on the same day. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 25.
