
Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution had allocated 19.27 crore tonne foodgrains (rice and wheat) under Targeted Public Distribution System (TDPS) during the past three years.Out of this allocation,different states had lifted 16.90 crore tonne.
Sadly,Jharkhand’s foodgrains offtake remained at 38.09 lakh tonne against total allocation of 51.87 lakh tonne under TPDS since 2011-12.
These facts were made public after Raosaheb Patil Danve, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution came up with them in Rajya Sabha on February 27, in reply to a question raised by Member of Rajya Sabha Parimal Nathwani.
In his reply,the Minister pointed out that 10.23 crore tonne rice and 8.74 crore tonne wheat were allocated under TPDS.But the States lifted 9.48 crore tonne rice and 7.42 crore tonne wheat in last four years since 2011-12.
According to the statement tabled in the house,against its allocation of .70 lakh tonne rice and 0.75 lakh tonne wheat.Jharkhand lifted just 3.45 lakh tonne rice and 0.51 lakh tonne wheat under Welfare scheme.
The Minister also stated that unlifted quantity of foodgrains by the States/UTs remains part of the Central Pool.
