State’s first “open air jail” is likely to be inaugurated on November 15 in Ranchi. The jail will accommodate 100 prisoners with good conduct.
A meeting was convened on Tuesday by DC, Sunil Kumar in this connection. SP Manoj Kaushik said he along with the DC, central jail superintendent and executive engineer, PWD (Buildings) inspected the campus where 109 individual quarters for the prisoners is under construction and reviewed the progress of the cottages where the prisoners will be accommodated.
The SP said that although the structures of the cottages have been completed finishing like white washing, roads, drinking water and power connections are yet to be completed.
He said that the DC has instructed the engineers and the jail authorities to expedite work so that the open air jail which was set up on a three acre plot adjacent to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail becomes functional. Besides this, the SP said that the final names of prisoners from all the jails of the state have not yet been finalised and will be done so after proper scrutiny.
