Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon has decided to hear on July 3 an anti-defection petition filed by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha president Babulal Marandi against six MLAs of his party for joining the BJP after the Assembly elections.
“I will hold a court on July 3 and the two sides could bring their advocates during the hearing on the merit of the case”, said Oraon.
The former Chief Minister filed the petition after six MLAs, who had won the last Assembly elections on his party ticket, joined the BJP on February 11.
Marandi petitioned that joining of the MLAs invited disqualification of the House membership under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution as they had won the December Assembly elections on JVM symbols.
