A local RSS leader was today shot dead near Gudijora in Khunti district of Jharkhand allegedly by suspected ultras , said the police.
Karambeer Mahato was going to Belangi from Gudijora village on a motorcycle when three motorcycle-borne assailants fired at him, added the police.
Police suspect extortion or personal enmity to be the reason behind the killing. The incident was being investigated from all possible angle, said the police.
Police did not rule out the involvement of ultra groups because Gudijora was stated to be stronghold of Peoples Liberation Front of India.
According to RSS sources Mahato was an active worker and the District Organizing Secretary.
Meanwhile, road traffic on Khunti-Ranchi Road was disrupted for hours after enraged local residents put up a road blockade with the body demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
