Jharkhand lags behind in implementing sanitation campaign

When the Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani raises question it makes news.This time,in response to his question,the Union Minister of State with independent charge of Ministry of drinking water and sanitation Bharatsinh Solanki informed Rajya Sabha that the performance of Jharkhand in building individual house hold latrines was much below the national average.

The percentage achievement of the ‘Total Sanitation Campaign’ in the country for IHHL was 71.12. The reported performance of Jharkhand was below national average along with Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Orissa, Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Punjab, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Pudducherry,said Solanki.

Solanki said that under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan,11,87,825 IHHL were built for the below poverty line during eleventh plan period in Jharkhand.”With the same for above poverty line households (APL) numbering 1,78,724; the total number of individual household latrines built in the State during the eleventh plan period was 13,66,549”,said a press communiqué issued by Naathwani’s office in Ranchi.

These informations were provided to the RS by Solanki who gave more details saying 205 community sanitary complex, 30627 school toilets and 6580 anganwadi toilets were built in Jharkhand.
