Off late,Jamshedpur, town of industrious Tatas, has been numbed with ever rising cases of suicides most of them being committed by the younger generation. The causes were attributed to reasons like stress, scolding by parents or teachers, poor performance in examination or even refusal by parents to buy a mobile phone or a dress.
To address this serious social issue, ‘Jeevan’, a non-profit organisation, working to prevent suicides, has joined hands with Urban Services department of Tata Steel to generate awareness on ‘Social Behaviour’. The programmes targetting people across all age groups – students, particularly the youth, teachers, parents and the community representatives will be conducted throughout the year at different community centres of Urban Services.
Chief Guest for the occasion, Vandana Mathur launched the programme yesterday at a function at R. D. Bhatta Community centre amidst a hundred participants and officers and staffs of Urban Services . Welcoming this joint initiative by ‘Jeevan’ and Urban Services she said that such interventions would help contain the problem of suicidal in steel city and prove beneficial for the society.
