They performed rituals infront of the idol of Bhagwan Mahavir.
As its is,these rituals were part of the main festival of the Jain community.It marks the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir and is also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak.
Bhagwan Mahavir was the 24th and the last Tirthankara and his birth anniversary is a religious holiday for the Jains.Even the state government offices remained closed.
Bhagwan Mahavir was the propogator of Jainism and developed a five fold path for all households to follow-‘Ahimsa’,’Asteya’,’Brahmacharya’,’Satya’ and ‘Aparigarha.’Jains follow these vows to lead peaceful and harmonious life.
“The celebration of this auspicious festival is very simple.Abhishekha(ceremonial bath)is given to the local statues of Lord Mahavira.Many charitable acts and donations to save wildlife are made during the day.Many devotees visited temples and meditated and offered prayers.
