The Union Telecom Ministry is planning to make it tough for the police to register a case against a person accused of delivering on line hate speech.

The move is a sequel to widespread criticism that the existing law was being misused to choke the freedom of expression granted by the Indian Constitution.

Recently, the arrest of two girls over a comment on the facebook against the bandh called by the Shiva Sena to mourn the death of  Balasaheb Thackeray in Mumbai had evoked bitter criticism against the police and the IT law that facilitated it to book them.

Now,if the press briefing made available by the Telecom Ministry official is of any indication, any complaint on language considered offensive will require review and approval by senior police officials.

Meanwhile reports said that the cases lodged against the two girls were withdrawn by the Maharshtra police.
