ISM to get upgraded as IIT

ism Dhanbad, Indian School of Mines as Indian Institute of Technology

Decks have been cleared to upgrade the status of the Dhanbad based Indian School of Mines as Indian Institute of Technology.

In all,Rs 400 crore is planned to be spent for the ISM’s upgradation.The Planning Commission of India has approved the plan and the budget.

Earlier,the Jharkhand assembly and the ISM’s Executive Board had recommended its upgradation.

As of now,ISM-a deemed University recognized by the University Grants Commission-has 16 departments where more than 4,000 students were studying various courses connected with the mining.
