Sumilan, an engagement initiative for contractor employees was launched by Safety and Ergonomics department of Tata Steel.
This happened yesterday when Chief Guest on the occasion, A K Mishra, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, appreciated the initiatives taken by Tata Steel and said ‘It is very pleasant to note that Tata Steel is one of the best Companies to have put in a lot of effort to take care of its employees in context of Safety and Health. Unfortunately though, we still are having accidents inside the Plant. I think this is the joint responsibility of Management, Contractors and Workers.’
Mishra stressed upon the roles and responsibilities of Supervisors and how the present supervisors must be aware of their rights and duties as per the law of the land. He added that Tata Steel as a Company has seriously taken our suggestions and implemented the same.
Earlier in the programme, Shyam Sunder, Chief, Safety and Ergonomics, Tata Steel welcomed the guests and made presentation on action taken by the Company on various suggestions received during manthans organized by the department.
Alok Kanagat, VP (Engineering. & Project), complemented the initiative taken by the department and assured to extend all support to the employees.
Supervisors of M/s Micco, L&T, Tarapore, JUSCO and R K Constructions also shared their thoughts on Communication, Tool Box Meeting, Role of Supervision, Knowledge of Safety Standard etc.
R K Sinha, Head, Workplace Safety proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Chandra Sharan along with various other safety professionals of the Company coordinated the programme. Around 250 contractor supervisors attended the programme.
