Come June 30 and the political leaders rush to Bhognadih village under Barhet Block in Sahebgunj district to pay tributes to tribal heroes who were killed by the British forces.

The scene is no different this time when politicians cutting across party lines visited Bhgnadih.Even Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das visited it and offered prayers to these tribal martyrs- Sido, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav.

On the occasion,a stone carrying the names of these tribal heroes was laid and the CM offered puja.”There is a plan to develop the village as a historic site”,said an officer from Bhognadih today.

Historically,Hul Diwas marks the contributions made by Sido, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav. The place is treated as the epicentre of the Santhal Hul (rebellion) against the British Raj in 1855, two years before Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, now considered to be India’s first freedom movement.

Now,nearly 150 years after these tribal heroes led the armed tribal movement against British regime and nearly 66 years after Independence, tribals of Santhal Pargana-division in Jharkhand, lack basic amenities- jobs, education and healthcare..

”We are committed to mark the change and bring about change in the tribal belt”,said a BJP leader close to the CM Das.
