“We want Hitler”,shouted a woman in Ranchi sitting inside drawing room of her house in front of the TV screen showing a sea of masses –mostly women and girls-who demonstrated outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan and at various other locations in New Delhi today.
The protesters demanded punishment to the culprits responsible for the gang rape of a girl who was still in Delhi hospital. Most of them blamed the politicians for not playing an active role in seeking justice for such heinous crimes and to take enough steps to prevent its recurrences.
New Delhi-Raisina Hills- had never witnessed such a spontaneous outburst of popular anger in the form of rallies against the political class in New Delhi.
Many agitated protesters blocked the car of West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan, who was on his way to meet President Pranab Mukherjee.
While the nation continued to pray for the rape victim and protesters thronged the city roads in various areas, shouting slogans against politicians and raising placards in their hands in the national capital,Sangita Devi, herself a victim of rape in 1999,said:”Our police, executive and judiciary have failed to provide justice to many victims who were victims of rape for years.Though I have no record with me,very few rapists were convicted’,said Devi.
“Now the time has come when we need to think about changing our system of governance.A dictator like Hitler is needed to set things right in our country.”
