Reacting to the decision of the BJP making Raghubar Das as the first non-tribal chief minister of Jharkhand, the outgoing Chief Minister Hemant Soren has accused the saffron party of crushing tribal leadership in the State by not allowing them to grow right from the beginning when Jharkhand came into existence.
“It is not today. From the very first day the Bharatiya Janata Party created situations in a planned way to crush tribal leadership,” he said.
The BJP never gave tribal leaders an opportunity to grow. They did not allow Babulal Marandi (former BJP leader) and Arjun Munda (BJP) to grow as tribal leaders,” added Soren.
He recalled how the BJP walked out of the Shibu Soren government in 2009 on the “pretext” of his father voting alongside the Manmohan Singh coalition on nuclear issue.
Claiming what he as a tribal achieved in 14 months rule, Soren said the BJP had “failed” even after ruling the state for maximum years. He said, today tribal leaders were finding themselves alienated in the wake of non-tribal becoming the Chief Minister for the first time in Jharkhand.
